PR Log (Press Release) – Jan 24, 2010 – An ingenious idea has been implemented by a little known technology company (AdComp Systems Group) and a little known School District in Texas. A pilot project has been launched, which will lead the path for every school bus nationwide to play short and interesting edu-taining and safety related video content in school buses. The commercial-free endeavour is being tested at the Crandall ISD in Texas. The initiative was approved to be piloted by Scott Stewart, the Director of Transportation at Crandall ISD.
The content for B-E-S-T (Bus-Ed-Safe-TV) has been provided by Robert Starr, Project Manager for NASA LE&RN. NASA LE&RN was founded in 2007 and is associated with the NASA office of Education.
A 26" LCD/TV plays select commercial free edu-taining and safety related content in the school buses while kids are being transported to and from school. The content is delivered to an onboard Microsoft windows-based Media server. Fresh content is periodically updated via a high speed wireless connection, while the school bus is in the parking lot.
AdComp Systems Group, the developer of this product is looking to expand the deployment of this initiative to every one of the 400,000 school buses nationwide. The technology is working great.
Fresh new commercial free content is sought from various organizations that can provide Edu-taining videos, safety videos, kid friendly anti-drug and anti-alcohol videos, animal / nature / social sciences / space / technology related videos that can appeal to kids of all ages.
The pilot in the Crandall ISD school bus has shown that the presence of the B-E-S-T system on the bus has been well received by the kids and the bus driver. The bus driver has reported a marked improvement in the behaviour of the kids after the B-E-S-T was installed. The Crandall ISD is going to pursue Educational and Safety related grants to be able to purchase additional B-E-S-T systems to be installed in their entire fleet.
